In modern electrical systems, circuit breakers play an indispensable role as the first line of defense in protecting circuits and equipment from damage caused by abnormal conditions such as overloads and short circuits. There is a wide variety of circuit breakers, which can be classified into multiple types based on factors including structure, application, rated current, and breaking capacity. In this episode of Minjia Lecture Hall, we will detail the common classifications of circuit breakers to help you better understand and apply this essential equipment.
Air Circuit Breaker (ACB)
Also known as air circuit breakers, ACBs are high-capacity circuit breakers with all components housed in a metal frame. Featuring a robust structure, they can be equipped with various accessories, offering high breaking capacity and flexible protection functions. Typically used as main power switches, bus tie switches, and control switches for large motors, ACBs are widely applied in high-power electrical systems.
Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB)
MCCBs are medium and small-capacity circuit breakers with key components enclosed in a plastic casing. Characterized by a compact structure and light weight, they are generally non-repairable. Suitable for branch circuit protection, MCCBs integrate protection functions against overload, short circuit, undervoltage, and leakage, making them widely used in industrial and commercial fields.
Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB)
Vacuum Circuit Breakers (VCBs) utilize vacuum arc extinguishing technology, achieving advantages such as high breaking capacity, low noise, no pollution, small size, and long service life. Primarily designed for medium-voltage power distribution systems, they are used to control and protect loads such as transformers, capacitors, and motors.
As one of China’s leading electrical manufacturers, People's Electrical Appliances is not only committed to providing high-quality products to customers but also actively participates in the formulation of national electrical standards. On April 1, 2021, the national standard GB/T 14048.2-2020 "Low-Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear - Part 2: Circuit Breakers", which People's Electrical Appliances participated in drafting, was officially implemented. This milestone marks a new stage in China’s development in this field.
